ePassport
An ePassport is a machine-readable document which contains a person's information and photograph printed on a laminated plastic card. The plastic card itself contains a chip which is able to store data in electronic form, including one of several embedded biometric information options such as a fingerprint, facial recognition or iris scan.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has developed and published a set of standards for the production of electronic passports. In addition, the United States Department of State Under the Patriot Act, from October 26, 2004 forward all individuals traveling from one of 27 countries covered under the Visa Waiver Act are required to have a "Machine-Readable Passport" with biometric identifier, usually referred to as an electronic passport or ePassport.

Cybertrust's ePassport solution is a flexible and modular solution that includes:
  • Issuing of certificates
  • Signing of data objects which are stored on the chip of every electronic passport.
  • Validating software for testing the authenticity and integrity of the signed data objects.
At the core of this solution is our UniCERTâ„¢ Certificate Authority technology.
